I think racism is disgusting. However, I think the specific category of a hate crime is a bit nefarious. We have laws to deal with assault already. Are the person's actions more wrong because they did them to a member of a identity group? It erodes faith in the law, and in the process. Is being a little racist dink to a taxi driver a crime, or is it just a great reason for that particular company to ban her from using their service.
