Either way, it's too bad it's not front loaded as it'd be nice to know he'd be much more tradeable if we're pushed up against the cap in a couple years. I just want to avoid a situation like Boston where cap issues forced them to trade their young studs (Seguin, Hamilton, Lucic) because there wasn't a huge market for a high-priced aging dman (Chara).

I think the lack of front loading is part of setting the internal cap. If Gio was getting paid $8-9M in the first few years, that could be used as the limit values for monny / johnny / Bennet contract extensions.
