Something that works very well for me, is to bait someone I know is waiting around a corner with a shotgun into attacking. I run TLW, so if the range is played correctly, they will at most get off one shotgun shot at a range that won't kill me in the time it takes me to get the 2-3 shots I need to put them down.

Basically I do a little jig on the corner, and then back up. Once they are committed I'm actually about 20 feet away and they are toast.
To add to that particular counter, adding vertical play is still somewhat rare by most people beyond blinking on top of somebody or a slight hop when rounding the corner with a shotgun.

When you've got those people who are only interested in jumping through death funnels, floating as a warlock or titan by the doorway makes for please pickings when they come in not knowing where you're hiding. Even if they're aware of the radar, it takes a second for them to get adjusted.

Listening to the Crucible Radio podcast has helped me be more mindful of things to try or practice. For example, I've been trying to really practice knowing my areas of control and staying alive even if I don't get the kills. Knowing the sight lines, lane that I could be attacked from and establishing that area that I have influence on, even if the action is elsewhere.
Along with that is getting rid of trying to force that engagement when I'm at any disadvantage. Whether it's just backing off when the enemy and I are both weak, having routes to take cover/run away, or not challenging hard scoping snipers, there's a lot to try and consciously remind myself when it's been a lot of mindless slaying.

Result so far has been a much better overall and consistent KD in most game modes. Kill count has now reached about the same as before.
