Many American cities with 1 million people get skipped as well. Bands play San Francisco and not San Jose (or Sacramento or Oakland) often. Bands choose to have a certain amount of shows per tour. They aren't suddenly adding more shows because a city built a new arena.

As it is bands often go Vancouver, Edmonton/Calgary and then Winnipeg for a Western Canadian swing. It's not suddenly becoming Vancouver and Edmonton and Calgary and Winnipeg. The roof is not a cure all to getting more concerts here. Will it mean a few more shows skip Edmonton for Calgary? Yes, but shows will still skip Calgary for Edmonton.

That's my point, if people think that's going to stop with a new arena, they are in for some heartbreak. Big acts will still skip Calgary.
