I'm sorry, I just don't see the value in this proposal. I had higher expectations after comments from the Flames that people would be pleasantly surprised. I'm not.
They can spin it as an "event centre" and a "fieldhouse" all they want. Lets call a spade a spade. It's a professional hockey arena and a football stadium masquerading as a fieldhouse.
It's funny that Ken King mentioned Yellowknife's field house (assuming Nehkara's comments are correct). That facility cost $22 million in 2006. It's a very plain facility, but I'm assuming it serves the community just fine. Why don't we just build something like that to fulfill the cities recreational needs?
I love the Flames, but this does not sound like a pragmatic use of taxpayer money. Maybe my opinion will change after the 2.30 presser, but I don't like dollar figures thrown out so far.
