I guess I don't see how living in a suburb of Airdrie is any more 'out of the city' than another other of the city's far-flung suburbs. Every patch of Calgary the size of Airdrie has its own malls, own schools, own restaurants, own movie theatres, etc. What, exactly, does that 20 km stretch of highway protect Airdrie residents from (besides taxes)? Is it just a psychological buffer to protect them from the spectre of gang shootouts and shambling packs of homeless people?
And if it's the outdoors and nature people are after, I guarantee my home in a Calgary suburb has a larger, more private yard, with more trees, and more greenspace and parks nearby, than 99 per cent of the homes in Airdrie.
