Calgary was the 403rd largest urban area in the world in 2013; the new number of 1.23 million would bump the city up to 388th, tied with Chifeng, China and Hama, Syria.

That may be slightly misleading, since the Calgary had 1,406,700 people in it's metro area in 2014. If you compare the city to other metro areas, it would be the 5th largest populated area in Australia, and the 42nd largest metro area in the USA.
