I would expect that we'll see the casualties accelerate upwards as people are reported missing by their families, but a lot of the victims were probably reduced to dust.

And with Halifax, (and Galveston Texas) everyone was out watching the fire burn on the ship(s) before the huge explosion. At least this happened at night and was relatively quick to go off.
