That's why I added the "first world" qualifier.
That's nice that you think 'they're trying', but I think the history books are going to be incredibly harsh on the modern USA when it's all said and done, trying or not. The fact that they are still having race riots in 2015 over their broken/racist justice system tells me all I need to know (I know more than that in case someone wants to go there). Yes, some people do care and are trying but it doesn't change the fact that the US justice system is broken and caters to those that have money. 90% of other countries have an excuse, they are disorganized and primitive by comparison.
'Trying'... hahaha... sorry it just sounds so funny to me. Trying to be a plutocracy disguised as a democracy maybe, and succeeding wildly. You need to look no further than the GOP primaries to see how bad things have gotten, just listen to the crap that comes out of their mouths... and that's their would-be LEADERS. I realize they are pandering to their base, and the left isn't so crazy, but they are both beholden to their corporate masters just the same. Say whatever to get elected, then do what their real bosses want once in.... it's been this way for years. Many people down there don't even realize they're being gamed (though more and more are waking up all the time). The 'election' is now nothing more than a sideshow to make them think the America founded in 1776 is still alive and well.
The US is a sophisticated machine that runs on money and is practically owned by corporations. Those at the top don't care about things like equal justice for all, they just care about money and power. It's taken decades of engineering to get this machine running the way they want, I don't think they're going to let anyone change it easily any time soon. It will take significant 'trying' to change anything at this point, probably nothing short of a bloody revolution, and I really don't see that happening any time soon.
Cue the conspiracy meme pics/one liners but I honestly believe the US is just a complete mess right now. I can't understand how anyone doesn't see them for what they are: A nation that once had a lot of promise and contributed positively to the world but is now nothing more than a corrupt, evil empire that cares only about it's rich citizens and it's position as a superpower on the world stage.
But ya, Jarett Stoll... sorry all, about the massive derail. At least it was in a thread that will be dead in the next couple of days anyway. Or probably sooner had I not derailed it.
