I thought Iginla was the best captain in the game for a few years. But I chose Gio - I don't know why, but to me he just epitomises what a captain should be (which has almost nothing to do with stats).

Can't agree at all with Lanny pickers. He was a personality, but only a co-captain in 89, and I never perceived him as a locker room leader on that team (or the others). Guys like Peplinski, MacInnis, Gilmour seemed more like on and off ice leaders. I figured Lanny's appointment was a nod to seniority more than anything.
