This isn't just a "crazy old dude and his numbers" thing. No Devils player has ever worn #13. John McMullen (the guy who brought the team to NJ) didn't want anyone wearing it (for superstitious reasons I guess) and Lou kept it that way. Might seem like a weird thing to care about, but if your team has been doing something for over 30 years, it's probably not a good idea to come in and change it in your first year.
