So Harper not only opposes something that wasn't an issue (yet), but is now likely going to force Mulcair and Trudeau to come out with similar positions. Harper's trying to control the message and keep the other two on the defensive. It would probably also play well when the debates turn to taxation.
You hit on the real problem though. There's 75 days to go. These cute little distractions will lose their value long before we get to the home stretch.

Its not smart. Its just ridiculous. "Well they didn't specifically say they weren't going to implement a tax, so the door is wide-open" kind of logic is just asinine. There are plenty of legitimate issues to talk about.
