CMLC really wants to stay employed and develop West Village as their new project as the East Village re-development is nearing completion. I heard that they are lobbying Council to let them do it. However; easier said than done. West Village is so severely contaminated with creosote and other hydrocarbons, the clean-up costs alone are estimated at $250M. That's before any infrastructure construction and development costs. There is no money allocated for this project in the municipal budget anywhere yet (although most of the land in the area has been purchased). Borrowing this much scares many Council members (and rightly so). Plus, there are no indications that provincial funding will be available either.
I don't believe we will hear the "big" announcement for a few more years. This thread will be perennial for a while, I'm afraid.
