Bezzerides and Velcoro were given new very simple motivations that were spelled out to the audience in very explicit ways. Not that there was much of a plot.

I'm aware of how they make these serieses. That doesn't make the story any less of a mess. As for the reasons, I'm guessing for the normal stuff. Meddling producers, agents, actors. Unfavourable reactions from the preview audiences. General lack of direction from the writer. Too little time to actually write the stuff. Most likely a combination of many of those things.
I do hear you there. It felt like it got kinda predictable after that. That's my problem with the series right now. Very tropey.

Backstory sure, I get that. OBVIOUS backstory, which is kinda disappointing. I guess I just didn't understand your first comment. It's obviously not a reboot. They wrote and planned that. For whatever reason. I think I know, but I won't judge until the final scene is played. But yes, it feels very set up now.

Still, there is good parts to the show. I like it. It's a 7 out of 10 at least. I'm just not over the moon with it the way I was with the first season.
