Prosperity has the unfortunate side-effect of population growth and increasing competition for resources. Combine that with the potential for reducing, or at least changing the habitable areas of the planet due to climate change, and I think there could be a huge correction coming at some point.
Technology might help postpone it, but I doubt that the carrying capacity of the planet can be increased indefinitely.
