I'll also be watching this and hope Lidell wins. Although, I'm not as excited as I was when it was reported he'd be fighting Wanderlei next. WTF? How can you announce something like that and then cancel it because of differences with Pride. You'd think they'd have worked those out in advance of having the staredown in the ring on PPV.
With St. Pierre getting hurt, this may be my last purchase in a while if it doesn't deliver. I'll spend my PPV money on other events. The first WFA event was excellent a few weeks ago.
As Hannah commented, the UFC fighters aren't getting paid nearly enough. There was a detailed breaking on the Fight Network Web site recently. I'm too lazy to dig up the link, but it is amazing that only Gracie and Ortiz get paid big bucks (and to a lesser extent, Hughes and Liddell). Even then, it's only a couple hundred grand compared to boxers who get paid millions to headline a PPV event. And the UFC PPV #s have been higher than boxing recently.
It's a wonder these fighters haven't protested yet, given how much goes into preparing for a fight and the limited earning window they have in their fighting careers.
On another note, can't believe there's going to be a Shamrock/Ortiz III. C'mon...at least it's not on PPV.
