Up until Nixon was eating by his paranoia with watergate, he was probably one of the better presidents in terms of domestic and foreign policy.
Domestically
Ended the draft
Founded the EPA and created the clean air, water and Marine Life protection acts
Pretty much reformed the Supreme Court
Signed Title IX into law removing gender bias against females in universities
Initiated and executed desegregation in southern schools
beat the crap out of organized crime by creating special task forces to target it
Ended forced assimilation of Indians and returned sacred lands.
Increased the funding of cancer research.
Space program wise he pushed for the Apollo-Soyuz hand shake in space, funded NASA to go from the Apollo missions to the Space Shuttle Missions
Foreign Policy
Participated in SALT 1
Oversaw the ABM treaty which helped Soviet American relations
Visited China,
Signed the Paris Peace Accords ending the Vietnam war (forced Vietnam back to the negotiating tables with the bombing campaigns)
Did a lot of work to bring home POW's
Pretty much saved Isreal during the Yom Kippur War by providing massive aid.
He was a crazy paranoid #######, but he was also very effective.
But he shouldn't have been pardoned, but was due to the destruction that a trial would have caused to the US domestically and internationally.
