I went to Thailand and got a $300 suit. It fits very well and looks fantastic as it's custom and made-to-measure, but it's very clear that the full quality isn't there with regards to the fabric and the stitching.
However, I would say that it is far superior to any $300 suit I could find in Calgary, and I'd say the equivalent value is around $500-600.
The problem with these trunk show things is that you're now paying $500-600 for $300 (or less) quality.
A $500 suit at these things is still gonna look better than an off the rack suit that you can find, but you're not far away from getting something pretty decent at Nordstrom (like a $550 suit with $100 of alterations).
