Is it better to sign Kesler for 2 years at 8 or 9 million per? He won't sign a two year deal at 6.8M/season. Is it better to sign at 6 years with a lower cap hit?
This is the dilemma GMs face. Perry, Getzlaf, and Kesler will all be 36 or 37 making huge dollars. Will they still produce at that age similar to Iginla? It's essentially rolling the dice. These players won't sign 1 or 2 year deals unless it's for huge dollars year to year.
Which model works better? If the players won't sign new short term deals with decent cap hits, the only other option is to rebuild and get what you can for them.
It's concerning given I am that age that 32 to 37 is essentially considered a death certificate now these days.
