Watched this last night. Phoenix/Glendale is far from the worst for stadium costs. And John Oliver's comment about Yankee Stadium needs to be taken in context about the City giving them land and tax breaks to the tune of $100M dollars. Yes the city did give them breaks but the Yankees payroll and entertainment taxes are over $20M/year benefit to the City of New York alone. The Yankees were discussing building the new stadium in Jersey at the time so the city would have lost this money.
I agree that if the Flames build the district without a direct taxpayer input then this will be exciting to see what they build. I believe that it will take some land/tax breaks from the City, but the city will more than recoup their money over time.
