They took a gamble and it didn't pay off.
However, what it did do was, when they sent him down, they made it clear to everyone in the organization that they will do whatever they need to do to ice the best team possible. Including demoting vets.

Just because the flames made the playoffs doesn't mean keeping setoguchi on the big club as long as they did wasn't a mistake. I think the flames would have been an even better team during that time if jooris, ferland, baertschi, etc. would have filled that spot.
I'm not too worried about it this year because of all that the young guys like ferland and Bennett showed in the playoffs last year. I believe treliving and Hartley have a good handle on how NHL ready these guys are and who deserves to be on the team.
