It could actually work in our favor. If we can sign the player either before they really break out or before they have proven consistency we might land them at a cheaper price. There is definitely a level of uncertainty with a player after 2 years. Only way it backfires I guess is if they regress but I don't see that as a big concern with Gaudreau or Bennett. I think you definitely land Gaudreau at a cheaper price if he has two 60pts seasons under his belt as opposed to say two 60pts seasons and a 70+pts season.
