"Practical effects" getting thrown out a lot by the Star Wars cast/crew. I don't know why, but the terminology is slightly grating, maybe just because it doesn't convey anything. What does "practical" mean here? Comes off kind of like the the different 3D formats used, like "reald". I have no better terminology in my head for the special effects that came before CGI, but I strongly dislike the "practical effects" one.

No, I am not drunk. But I probably should so I have an excuse for going off on terminology I don't like. Maybe an Abe Simpson yelling at clouds pic is in order.
