I know that this is a month-old thread, but if you're still looking for a solution for in the car, you may not need to look any further than Unblock-us. They provide a free VPN feature that allows you to use their geo-unblocking while away from your home connection.

It does the same DNS trickery as it does on your home connection. I have used it on the mobile network for BBC and some UK-only radio feeds, and it works really well. And it doesn't route all of your traffic over the VPN, so there is no loss of speed.
