I would really hate for all this patience and development to be lost for the flames if he chooses to become a free agent next summer. He would look great on this team as a top six player or even as a strong 3rd line center... Similar to how Jordan staal was for the penguins a few years ago. If he keeps progressing like he has we will no doubt be on a gaudreau-style contract watch next year. Conroy will have to hop on the private jet and go get the deal done.
I'm always concerned kids like this have advisers/agents in their ear during that time who are telling them the surest way to getting onto an NHL roster and making NHL money is to go to free agency and pick a team that doesn't have much forward depth... Especially at center. I hope his loyalty lies with the team that took a big chance on him with their first round pick and he signs with the flames. I think he will but it always makes me nervous with college players cause it's becoming more and more common for them to move on looking for a better chance to make the NHL.

Amazing how a couple of years ago if you could fog a mirror you had a legit chance of cracking the Flames lineup - now you will need to beat out some seasoned NHL talent to crack this lineup. It has come full circle in a couple of years.
