Kulak looked pretty fine to me in his short little time in the NHL (better overall than Engelland and Wotherspoon in the same game, maybe not as steady as Ramage or Schlemko)... I liked his positioning, his work in front of the net, and his poise with the puck. He made some clear mistakes - one a dumb penalty he knows he shouldn't be making and the other a turnover right behind the net that felt Justin Schultz-ey - but hey those are mistakes, not
inadequacies. Cut his minutes and usage down to bottom pairing, and you've still got yourself a servicable bottom pairing D already at 20 years old.
Obviously you
want these guys developing in the AHL getting big minutes where when they're playing in the NHL they're transitioning seemlessly. But just because one played in the ECHL and the other got cut by a skate doesn't mean they'd embarass themselves in the NHL. They're better players then Oilers' Klefbom.
