I agree that Joe Colborne has had trouble putting it all together. If it were otherwise, we'd be looking at signing Joe to a much larger contract right now.

But he's shown glimpses of this ability and has been getting closer and closer to becoming a complete NHLer as time progresses. For this reason I believe it's too soon to call it quits on the guy. I'd imagine the Flames feel the same way or he'd of been healthy scratched last season over guys like Granlund, Shore, etc..

And I don't understand how you can say Shore has shown more than Colborne. He has shown decent puck possession and that's about it. 3 points and -5 in 11 games tells me his 'instincts' aren't up to par. Small sample size but that's because Hartley deemed Colborne a player more worthy of the ice time.

Jones will not net a decent return at 4 mil. His good play at the end of last year might make him tradeable, but certainly not desirable by any team.

And I don't think anyone is saying Colborne is a piece that NEEDS to be kept. Just like Jankowski isn't a prospect that NEEDS to be kept. But they are both intriguing players that have high upside and are still valuable parts of the organization.
