This was a solid signing and Frolik is an experienced cup winner who is only 27 years old.

Frolik won a cup with the Hawks in 2012-13
He was definitely a support player. On the Regular season he had the 10th most ice time of Chicago forwards.
Of the top 12 TOI Chicago forward the Hawks kept 8 and replaced 4 in 2013-14.
The guys they dropped were:
#7 in TOI Stahlberg was a UFA signed by Nashville 3M x 4 yrs... last year was sent to the AHL and this year he was bought out by Nashville and signed a 1.1 M 1 yr deal with NYR
#9 Bolland traded to Leafs for 2013 2nd round pick #51 , 2013 4th #117 and 2014 4th #98 ... After 1 nondescript 23 games 12 pts season with the leafs he signed as a UFA with the Panthers who probably expected more than 23 pts in 53 games in yr 1 of 5.5M x 5 yrs
#10 Frolik traded to the Jets for a 2013 3rd #74 and 5th #134
#12 Carcillo Traded to LA for a conditional 6th round Pick.
They were replaced with
#8 Ben Smith
#9 Kris Versteeg
#10 Brandon Bollig
# 11 Michal Handzus
The next year they kept 10 and dropped Bollig and Handzuz replaced with Brad Richard and #12 Teravainen.. Swapped out Smith for Vermette at the trading deadline.
Is Frolik a key player on a top 8 team or a support player?
Stahlberg was more important to the Hawks in the 2013 SC season... Nashville expected him to step up and be top 6 on their good team ... when they got really good he was not good enough to be a 3M support player. Maybe he will be a good support player for the Rangers @ 1.1M
