I don't think Glencross is the best example if we are talking about trading Hudler at the deadline. Glencross was not doing much for the flames at the time and they didnt miss a beat without him. Taking out Hudler , if he is still playing well, would probably be a whole different ball game. Yes return would be good , but is it more important than making the playoffs, or taking the next step in the playoffs? Its a hard question to answer for me. I would trade him , if they are not re-singing him, but i would understand if they think playoffs and next step is more valuable.
I like hudler and hope we can keep him, but agreed; i think that you'd definitely try to get a return out of him rather than letting him walk away for nothing if you can't or won't sign him. I still think letting Cammy walk for nothing was a head scratcher...

I mentioned Glencross because teams will overpay at the deadline...so if Hudler was going to be shopped, doing it during the trade deadline day will max out your return...

teams like Winnipeg or NYI are teams that might try looking to get deeper in the playoffs and both those teams have a lot of young prospects that they might flip for a guy like hudler in order to get them further in the playoffs...
