Default Bomb detonates at Winnipeg Family Law Office: Woman in Critical Condition

A lawyer was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after an explosion at a law office at 252 River Ave. in Winnipeg Friday morning. Police confirmed 35-year-old Maria Mitousis, a lawyer with the Petersen King law office, sustained injuries to her neck and stomach when an explosive device in a package detonated. Mitousis was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police are investigating after an "explosive device was detonated," sending a woman at Petersen King Law firm on River Avenue to hospital with serious injuries to her upper body. A downtown building in the 400 block of St. Mary Ave., which houses several law firms, was evacuated in the early afternoon. Barry Gorlick, Mitousis' romantic partner, briefly spoke with the Free Press and said she went into surgery just before 1:30 p.m.

"It's not good," Gorlick said.

A downtown building in the 400 block of St. Mary Ave. — which houses Monk Goodwin law offices — was evacuated in the early afternoon. Mitousis, who specializes in family law, previously worked at Monk Goodwin, a law firm in the building on St. Mary Avenue which was also evacuated. She only recently moved to Petersen King, where the explosion occurred.
