Yeah they twisted Ventress from what she was originally in the first clone war series, a complete rage machine. I like that they gave her depth, that she saw her Jedi protector and master slaughtered by pirates and she swore revenge against the galaxy as a whole.

In the original legends canon, she was redeemed in the end when she told Obi-wan to "defend Coruscant" just before the events in Revenge of the Sith, and then vanished from the GFFA.

They kept the revenge story, and she didn't so much as redeem herself as switch the target of her revenge to Dooku.

so it wouldn't be a stretch from her to offer herself to the Empire at the end of the war.

In either case, whether it was Ventress that's the new female inquisitor or Barriss, both will add some pretty emotional weight to Ashoka's story in Rebels.
