I wasn't aware he publicly stated he deserved/expected an expanded role.. If that's the case, he's out to lunch with the culture we've got brewing.
As far as saying he wasn't looking to take a hometown discount this time around, is that really something to sewer a guy for? He played out a contract described nearly unanimously by this site/the hockey world in general as one of the best value deals of its time, with no public complaints (that I'm aware of). He didn't come out and demand an extra 1.5 or 2 million per tacked on for years he felt he over performed his contract, with a PowerPoint presentation attached to back his case.
Dunno how running a guy out of town like that is viewed by players around the league.. Don't know about you, but I'm hoping by this time next year we have 5+ freshly inked contracts we will look at by their midpoint as total steals, and I'd rather not have this fan base pick up the same perceived quirk the Bruins were recently tagged with (running guys out of town for expecting a fair payday when it's earned).
The Flames had some awesome breakouts this past season, and unfortunately for Curtis the wheels fell off at the wrong time and he was a casualty. Who knows why his season ended he way it did in Washington.. I'm doubtful it's because he's past his expiry date. I'm sure he finds a home somewhere once the dust clears.
Tl;dr-- Glennie was good for us, and I hope he has a chance to be good somewhere else.
