Exactly. Frankly its the reason I stopped watching 24 and X-Files, and if I do stop watching Prison Break it will be because I get tired of the conspiracy angle. And at least 2 or 3 new shows this fall have a similar slant to them.
A strong single character antagonist is typically more effective for me than "the whole world is out to get us".
Lost being a notable exception.
