Rich Winter and Brian Burke likely have a strong working relationship, as they are both major players in the Univeristy of Athabasca's hockey MBA program. There is no doubt those two talk on a regular basis, and Winter probably understands Calgary's position better than most agents. That said, he is paid to be Giordano's agent, so there may be some serious middleman going on between Burke/Treliving and Giordano.
I anticipate something gets done, but I sure how Burke and Treliving don't capitulate. I'd say even without Girodano, we have a capable top four defense corps. It wouldn't be hard to find another 5-6 to pair with Engelland, and that's not accounting for a huge return Gio could bring in a trade.
