Developing at home in Stockholm for a year in a stable environment isn't a bad option. Roger Melin, the AIK coach, is one of Sweden's most experienced coaches and supposedly there's a good amount of money waiting to flow into the club to take it back to the top flight. Looking at their defenders, I think a reasonable guess is that he probably would get first pairing minutes. Although there are people who know that team much better than I do.
CHL, where focus is on development, probably wouldn't be a bad option either. Being stuck in the AHL logjam of defencemen wouldn't help at all.
