6.85M is not really a huge percentage of that. At worst, Gio retires and we take some tiny recapture penalty that should be even smaller. Ideally Gio is still a productive Top 4 Dman, and by then that'll probably be #4 Dman money.

Team should and do negotiate on what the cap is, and not in hopes the cap will rise 7 years down the line. The Flames have talented young players on the roster and talented young players coming up through the system, everyone million counts.
