Yeah, those are my concerns as well. The ECHL just isn't a development league, players end up there, goalies can end up there when teams have depth but it isn't for long stretches and certainly not for an 18 year old.
Have him go to the CHL, get some stability for the next two years. Play with his peers and get used to the North American game. The Flames brass will be in constant communication with him I'm sure and he'll get the quality coaching and development the Canadian Hockey League provides.
We're in no rush.
