I get that he's younger but is he even an upgrade? Wideman played the best hockey of his career last year, I get "sell high" but assuming Franson will replace him seems to be a stretch.

Keep in mind Wideman was benched in Washington during the playoffs and was very nearly run out of Calgary because of his defensive issues. Things can change quickly. I see them as very similar players, myself. Difference being that Wideman only has two years left on his contract whereas Franson will command much more.
