Hakan Loob only considered what could be best for Oliver Kylington in a perfect world.
One undeniable fact is that Kylington needs 20+ minutes a game wherever he goes - penalty kill, power play, he needs to make progression in his overall game.
Will Kylington get 20+ minutes in the AHL? The Heat have:
Wotherspoon
Nakladal
Morrisson
Kulak
Culkin
Sieloff
Kanzig
and probably Stevenson, Fram, or Eric Roy on the roster. Maybe Ramage too.
It's safe to say that Kylington isn't going to just shoot right past Wotherspoon or Nakladal for top pairing minutes in the A. I don't expect him to outperform the next three either.
AIK is a good fit for him if he can get big minutes. It's safe to say Farajstad, which is what Loob is most familiar with, was a poor fit as he was getting bottom pair minutes. But Kylington has shown no rush to play in the SHL next year. If he gets promoted back to the big leagues, awesome, but the key is for him to get big time minutes in a good league. Swedish Tier 2 is a good fit for him and I have to imagine he'll be the top dog in AIK.
Last season Brett Kulak as further along in his development than Kylington is, he came into the AHL, played six games, and then got sent down to Colorado Eagles of the ECHL to get playing time. The Flames' total control over his development get lost in the process, and while Kulak managed to survive the demotion and come back strong, the fact remains that if 20-year-old Kulak got demoted, so too would 18-year-old Kylington.
