In the cap world players worth is always relative to cap value. Overpaid players of any level are a problem, so salary always matters for everyone except the very best superstars.
If Hamilton does not progress as expected, we might have just traded for an about-to-be-overpaid 2nd pairing 2nd PP D-man. Boston could very well draft something better than that with those three picks.
I think we're unlikely to do worse than Boston here, but people seem to forget there is always a chance that you end up losing a trade that looked like a slam dunk at the time.
