Two things I like about the deal:
1. depth - injuries will happen on defence and we've mitigated the problem if a top four guy goes down.
2. When Giordano was injured, three guys were playing close to 30 minutes a game. Even before then, the third pairing was averaging barely 10 minutes a game. The addition of Hamilton allows Hartley to spread out the minutes more evenly among the defence core and maybe stress specialization within the special teams. They should not be liable to the wear and tear that the top four endured this year. To me, I'm reminded of the 1989 defence corps with MacInnis, Suter, Ramage, McCrimmon, Macoun and Murzyn with Nattress in reserve. Boy, was that a solid unit even after Suter was injured.
