Either way, I would EXPECT pysops to do what they did. Their job is to influence the public into believing certain things. It is NOT the media's job to change pictures.

All the video footage and still photographs we saw were of a large group of Iraqi's celebrating the toppling of saddams statue. They were hitting it with their shoes, standing and jumping on it and riding it around as it was dragged through the streets.
'Holy Crap!' we all thought, "those Eye-Rackees sure do hate that guy and are glad he's gone. They must be ecstatic to have the US military there! There must be thousands out celebrating in the streets, just like Uncle Dick Cheney told us!"
And that's what we were told; the pictures matched the words.
The pictures from the media hotel across the square tell a different story. They tell the story of
maybe a hundred, standing around as all the major western news media camera's position themselves for that 'spontaneous' show of 'emotion', waiting for the signal to be jubilant. A US soldier puts an american flag over saddam's head, the crowds begin to grow angry. Hastily it is removed and the crane is brought in to topple the statue and we all watch as 'history unfolds' before our very eyes.
Except what we were seeing and what was being reported wasn't what was happening, much like the situation in Iraq and Lebanon now.
I'm trying to find the better shots I've seen, but I'm having trouble. I'll keep digging to see if I can find them.
