I'm fine with going Hiller/Ortio this year, or going after another stop gap until guys like ortio/gilles are able to take on a larger role with the big club in the coming years.

I honestly don't think the Flames manage the timeline that way.
They need a goaltender until a young goaltender proves they need the net. They have Ortio, Gillies and McDonald in the pipeline but they don't know if any or all of them will pan out.
Better to bring in a guy that can do the job and then have that guy pushed to the side by a better option down the road.
Organizations that assume youth can do it fail often.
