The St Loius Blues traded established star power forward Brendan Shanahan for Chris Pronger who at the time just completed his second season with the Whalers putting up a paltry 14 points in 43 games.
Hamilton has already accomplished more than Pronger at the same age and there's still more room to grow. Hamilton is arguably ahead of where Pronger was at the same age.
This also applies to the Gaudreau for Hamilton discussion. Young star winger for young star defenseman. At the time of the Shanny / Pronger trade, Shanny was highly coveted, in fact the Blues lost Scott Stevens because they signed Shanahan.
