I think in support of John being either an Other like Cold Hands or Azor Ahai is that he can warg into Ghost, thus "preserving" his soul, so to speak. Once his body is restored to life his soul can make a full recovery, unlike Katelyn Stark or Berik Dondarrion who both lose a bit of themselves (as described by Berik) every time they are brought back to life.
