I'm not surprised at Gio's ask and his desire for a 'retirement contract' but I'm hopeful the Flames can do something short term. My original idea for him was a $30 million, 3-year contract, followed by a lower-dollar, long-term retirement deal.
Regardless, do whatever it takes to keep Giordano. Whether or not he remains the best defenceman in the NHL, his attitude and leadership alone would be worth 4.5 million a season if he lost both his feet.
