1 in every 2 teams makes the playoffs, 1 in every 4 makes the second round 1 in every 8 makes the third and 1 in every 16 makes the final. it's perfectly balanced. No reason to think the NHL wouldn't pursue this.

On paper it's an okay idea. My issue is that they're expanding while there are multiple teams failing to make money with ownership that isn't willing to spend money to be competitive.
