Fact is, he's 27, puts up possession numbers like a top 3 dmen but only gets the ice time of a #7. If he gets the ice time his possession numbers suggest he should, his points will increase.
In my opinion with younger players long term deals are better, as the cap goes up their contracts shrink relative to the cap total.

You're insane. He was waived because he wasn't good enough to crack the mediocre Star's defence. It's that simple. He probably would have cleared waivers if Calgary didn't find themselves desperate for a defenceman at the time.
