Burke mentioned something at the STH event last week that I hadn't heard before.
He said that in the last few years, the league has changed the voting procedure for the awards. It used to be that every member of the Hockey Writers Association had one vote for each award and that was it, which gave an advantage to players from Toronto and Montreal since they have many more PHWA members than other cities. Now, the writers in each city get one vote total for each award. If there are 30 writers in Toronto, they get one collective vote, and the 6 writers in Buffalo also get one collective vote. He also said that the league has some votes as well.
I don't know what that means for the national reporters like McKenzie and Friedman.
