Love the term and the AAV.
Can understand why some would like it to have been longer, but I think this contract maintains some needed flexibility. And by that I mean that it is a very tradable contract.
Not saying he will be traded, but if others step up in the future (Shore, Arnold, Jankowski, etc), Backlund's contract would be very movable and attractive.
Also, there are still some questions as to what exactly Backlund is. Keeping it only 3 years not only buys 2 years of UFA status, it also keeps things short enough to see how things play out without major commitment.
Really smart contract IMO.
Treliving continues to slowly but surely and consistently impress me.
